Frank King - Speaking “Frank(ly)” About Mental Health And Resilience
In this episode Frank King, celebrated mental health comedian, provides us with an insightful and “Frank” (pardon the pun) approach to Mental Health. The truth is that depression and other mental health concerns are having a significant impact on people of all walks of life. It does not discriminate between race, culture or socioeconomic status. It has been there among friends, family members and co-workers before the pandemic, and will certainly be there as we recover from a pandemic.
Bringing a unique and humorous perspective on men’s mental health, Frank inspires us to look at the obstacles associated with depression and other mental illnesses. Recognizing the importance of having discussions like these, we are shining a light on patterns that lead to isolation, how to respectfully have a conversation with someone who may be battling depression, and how we can all play a role in preventing suicide. As a comedian and advocate for mental wellness, Frank has discovered his purpose and meaning through conversations like this.
As co-author of the book titled Guts, Grit, Grind – Mental Health Mechanics, we are covering topics such as toxic masculinity, suicide and the value of having a “pit crew”. Drawing on his humour and personal experience of living with Chronic suicide ideation, Frank has a way of highlighting the challenges while also providing a road map for resilience. If you or a loved one are struggling with depression, I hope you will find this episode to be a strong addition to your resilience manual.
